What is the onboarding cut-off date for payroll, and how does it work?

The onboarding cut-off date is the last date a new employee must join and be fully set up in the platform to be included in an upcoming payroll cycle. It is defined per country and pay frequency and is shown in the Important Dates calendar (orange label).

How it works for semi-monthly payrolls

For semi-monthly cycles, employees are paid twice a month. The onboarding cut-off decides which of the two pay dates the new hire will be included in.

1. Employees who join after 20th of last month and before the 5th of the month:

If Onboarding is completed within this period, first salary is paid in the mid-month payroll → usually 15th of the month

If the 15th is a non-working day/bank holiday, payout moves to the previous working day.

2. Employees who join after 5th of the month and before the 20th of the month :

If Onboarding is completed within this period, first salary is paid in the end-of-month payroll → usually the last working day of the month.
